Philippe Fargues

Fellow and Professor

Philippe Fargues  is a French demographer. He is a distinguished fellow at the European University Institute. He was the founding Director of EUI’s Migration Policy Centre and held senior positions at the National Institute for Demographic Studies in Paris and the American University in Cairo. He was Professor  at Harvard and Sciences Po Paris and taught at various universities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

His research interests cover population, international migration and politics.  His recent publications include:  Excluded Generations in Non-Inclusive Nations: The Demographic Roots of Political Unrest in the Arab World  (forthcoming, The Oxford Handbook of the Sociology of the Middle-East);  Advancing Knowledge on International Migration: Data and Research Needs ( IUSSP, 2018),   Migration to the Gulf: Policies in sending and receiving countries  (with N. Shah, GRC-Cambridge, 2018);  Migration from North Africa and the Middle East: Skilled Migrants, Development and Globalisation  (IB Tauris, 2015); and International Migration and the Demographic Transition: a Two-Way Interaction (International Migration Review, 2011).
