This is the first-ever manual providing detailed guidance on the compilation of remittances. Data on remittances are important for policymaking, analysis, and research purposes. Using the detailed guidance provided by this manual, economies will be able to substantially improve the quality of these data.
This report discusses the increasing importance of remittances on development; specifically looking at which countries receive the largest amount of remittances, the ways in which remittances can and have reduced poverty, the ways in which they promote education, health and entrepreneurship, among others.
Since its creation in 1919, the ILO has devoted attention to international migration issues, including the availability and quality of international migration statistics. These guidelines aim to establish the basis for strengthening national capacities to generate the data required for policy analysis in the area of international migration.
