IOM's Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC)
The International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) was set up to respond to calls for better international migration data and analysis. Established in Berlin in 2015 at the invitation of the Government of Germany, the Centre aims to strengthen the role of data in global migration governance, support IOM Member States’ capacities to collect, analyse and use migration data and promote evidence-based policies by compiling, sharing and analysing IOM data, and other sources of data.
While the Migration Data Portal is a tool built for the migration community, by the migration community, it is run by a core team at IOM’s GMDAC. Many other institutions, UN agencies and IOM departments, country and regional offices also contribute to the Portal and are in close coordination with the core team.
