Global Compact for Migration

In the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, UN Member States agree on common goals in managing international migration in all its dimensions. The non-binding Compact encompasses 23 objectives (see below) for better managing migration at local, national, regional and global levels.

Data are a very prominent part of the Global Compact. Objective 1 of the GCM begins with a commitment to “collect and utilize accurate and disaggregated data as a basis for evidence-based policies”. The GCM also highlights the importance of having good migration data to promote a “well-informed public discourse” and for “effective monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of commitments over time.”

The section below presents key content in the Global Migration Data Portal organized by GCM objective. Please click on the objective you are interested in to find what tools and resources are available on each GCM objective, from migration data indicators, to thematic pages on migration topics, as well as blogs and videos by experts on migration data.
