A Road Map for a Country-led Data Revolution
Available in English and French, this report examines the role of the data revolution in aiding national and regional development, with a special focus on the role of national statistical offices in developing countries at providing the ‘right data’ to the ‘right people’ in the ‘right format.’ National Statistical Systems (NSS) are crucial to generating the data needed to promote development and reduce poverty and to monitor international development goals. The ‘road map’ suggested here is structured around four main components of change recommended to national statistical offices, the two most data-focussed categories being ‘Technology, Innovation, and Analysis’ and ‘Capacity Resources.’ The other two categories, ‘Principles and Standards’ and ‘Governance and Leadership’ round out the recommendations. Each section includes both short term goals and long term aims, helping national-level actors begin to make real progress as soon as possible while working to set up a more enduring set of changes.
